About Liz

A image of Liz Harrison: a female with mid-length warm blonde hair, seated on the floor and leaning on a stool. Harrison is wearing a dusty rose velvet blazer, black shirt with white bird print, dark indigo jeans, tall brown boots. Green background.

Liz Harrison is in her 12th year of teaching and still finding joy in her students and high school classroom. She recently completed a Master of Education in Canadian Literacies degree through the University of Lethbridge. Liz has also completed a Graphic Design and Interactive Media Diploma through the Toronto Film School out of Yorkville University; she is excited to reach the end and has five courses of twenty-one to complete.

Liz believes multimodality in English classrooms creates access, and that proficiencies-based, capabilities-centered support lets students feel safe to take risks and play ‘dangerously’ with language arts.

I am grateful to be living and growing today on Treaty Land. The life, learning, and teaching experiences which have shaped my gestalt have occurred on Treaties 6, 7, 8, and 11 Territories, home of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, and other Nations, who have walked this land since time immemorial.I am grateful for these opportunities and humbly offer my allyship, including my support of Indigenous literary artists and creators and by taking pedagogical and professional action in support of the ongoing reconciliation efforts and processes of decolonization.

The text, "Ships are safe in harbour, but that's not why ships are built." The 's' in ships is the picture of a sailboat, the 'w' in w is a white-capped wave.
